My daughter came home from school today and I found out that the “poem of the week” they are learning in first grade is one of the very same Halloween songs that I learned when I was her age! It’s one that has always stayed with me and we sing it every year. In case you learned it and may have forgotten, it goes a little something like this:
Five Little Pumpkins
Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one says “Oh my it’s getting late!”
The second one says “There are witches in the air.”
The third one says “But we don’t care.”
The fourth ones says “Let’s run and run and run.”
The fifth one says “I’m ready for some fun.”
Oooooohhh went the wind and OUT went the lights,
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of site.
Be sure to do the hand motions with it!
(My daughter’s class says “noises in the air” instead of witches. Probably because some parents complained.)
Amazon actually has some books with the “story” as well:
