One of my daughters is obsessed with Lucky Charms cereal. I’m not going to say which one it is, but let’s just say her name rhymes with “million.”
Last year she asked me why you couldn’t just buy the Lucky Charms marshmallows without buying the cereal and I told her that I thought you could. After looking for them for months, I came to the conclusion that you COULD buy them at one point but no longer.
How surprised was I to see limited edition “Just Magical Mashmallows” online the other day? This particular package is a “St. Patrick’s Day Edition,” but the ones I saw in the past were just random special editions.
Keep in mind, these are NOT the special St. Patrick’s Day edition cereal. These are JUST the “magical marshmallows” from inside.
I was able to find these on the Lucky Charms website, but they don’t sell them there. So I spent a couple of hours looking for them and came up with the following:
Good deal: Target had 4oz bags for about $5 online. I was able to order 4 of those but when I went back to order more, they were gone. So you can check your local store or see if you can order them online to be shipped, but they may already be sold out.
Looking for luck: Supposedly our Kroger has them, and the website says they might. But I didn’t see any at my local Kroger. You may be more lucky.
Worst ripoff: Amazon has them but I think they are all from resellers, who are selling them for between $10 and $20 a package. Maybe the price will go down if people don’t buy them?
Worth a look: I was able to buy 2 boxes off of eBay for $12 each. This isn’t terrible because EACH box has 2 4oz bags. So this was $12 (free shipping) for the equivalent of what I paid about $11 for when I ordered from Target.
Best deal! Members only: I finally ended up figuring out where all of the Amazon and eBay people were getting them–Sam’s Club! If you happen to have a Sam’s Club membership, you can get the box of 2 4oz bags for $7.98. You can pick them up for free if you are lucky enough to have them locally. I had them shipped at a price of about $5 for 5 boxes. That essentially made them $8 a box, or cheaper than buying the equivalent 2 bags at Target.
How many should you stock up with? Well, the expiration date on mine says November 2024, so they will probably be good even longer than that. Maybe until they sell a special edition again in 2025??
Before I found these, I was tempted to buy some generic marshmallows from Amazon for my daughter just to try them out but never did. They are much cheaper, as expected. Maybe she’ll end up wanting these if she runs out of the Lucky Charms and gets desperate? They look pretty darn similar. I’m curious as to whether they are any good.
What’s your take on Lucky Charms and the magically delicious marshmallows? If you get some, how are you going to use them? We found some fun recipes on the Lucky Charms website, and I am considering making a trail mix!
