When I first started this blog, my daughters were 1 and 3. There were so many “mom” topics to talk about! Behavior issues, saving money on diapers, surviving teething….
As the kids got older, I wrote about Halloween costumes and the appropriate age for certain books and how to style “show choir” hair. There were product reviews about everything from blue mascara to food prep.
The next phase got a lot rougher to write about— college and the empty nest. Parenting got HARD and it didn’t feel appropriate to share a lot of personal things going on. There were fewer funny stories they didn’t mind me sharing with the world. I respected their privacy too much to write about many of the things that were going on.
Now we have a new phase that feels a lot more fun! Cassie got engaged last weekend to a wonderful young man she met in college and has been dating for several years. Although they haven’t set a date yet, I am excited about adding the designation “mother of the bride” to some of my posts as well as exploring what it might mean for sharing information with other moms of kids getting married.
Topics I am excited to start exploring for both me and her in the coming months:
- Wedding planning resources (especially saving money but still having a fabulous wedding)
- How-not-to-helicopter-the-bride advice
- Mother-of-the-bride dresses for women who always hate what they look like in pictures
- What it looks like to get married in the 21st Century compared to the 20th Century
Although I certainly write a lot less on this site than I did when the kids were little, and about VERY different topics, I am forever grateful for over 20 years of having a positive place to connect with others on many diverse topics. That won’t change…. and it’s exciting to have a new one to think about!
