Moms- what don’t they do? They cook, clean, nurture, love, play, and spend most of their time tending to the needs of their little ones (or often big ones, unfortunately). How does the supermom spend time on herself? This is a problem most moms face, many times unknowingly. If you spend any time watching “What Not To Wear,” you’ll see how moms can too easily forget to take care of themselves while caring for their children. Shopping is time-consuming and expensive, and many times only lowers self-confidence. Perhaps if the supermom had one item she could count on to feel beautiful in. One item she could wear to all sorts of occasions, and one item she could easily wash and care for! None of the dry cleaning hassle after the baby has its fifth accident of the day, or fear that the dress won’t fit while weight is fluctuating. And let’s not forget comfort! Isn’t that what every mom wants? Clothes she can look stylish and feel comfortable in? Ladies- I have this item for you!
THE ONE MUST-HAVE ITEM FOR MOMS: A COTTON V-NECK DRESS
Why? Why is the cotton v-neck dress so special?
-
It flatters everyone. Whether you have a small or big chest (or bloated boobs while nursing), a v-neck will de-emphasize a top-heavy lady while still flattering those who are small. Another important feature is a waist belt. No matter your size, a flattering look for every woman is one that draws attention to one of her most feminine features, her waist. Also look for a dark color, which is slimming, and hides stains.
-
It is easy to care for. There’s a reason cotton is in the title. Cotton can be washed at even the hottest of temperatures (though I wouldn’t recommend it in when avoiding shrinkage) and is durable enough to withstand any detergent or bleach product. Stains can easily be taken care of with a little soaking in cold water.
-
It is comfortable. Aha! The replacement for the grungy, go-to sweat pants. Cotton is the most breathable fabric and won’t cling, itch, or tickle! No more excuses of “I just want to be comfortable” while wearing big sweatshirts.
-
It is versatile. A v-neck dress, though cotton, can be dressed up or down and worn pretty much anywhere! Throw it on for a trip to the super-market, lunch with friends, date night with the stud husband, or even play date with your two year old’s closest friends (don’t be afraid to get dirty- remember, cotton washes easily!).
-
It is its own outfit. No more wishing you had time to mix and match your clothing! A v-neck cotton dress is an ensemble all by itself. Both examples I chose below are appropriate for winter, with tights and a heel for a fancy date night or knee-high boots for casual activities, but can also be worn easily in the spring and summer months with ballet flats. The detail on the maternity style also aids in its low-maintenance identity. The ruffled neckline is an accessory in itself and can be worn without other jewelry!
-
It is forgivable. If you’re worried about buying anything while losing baby weight or working on a diet, try this dress on for size. The fabric is forgiving and will many times grow with you or shrink at your beckoning. The area below the waist belt is also designed to disguise belly fat and the skirt will glide easily over the hips.
In recognition of the moms who are pregnant or losing baby weight, the item I chose is from the maternity section on the Target website. This style is a 100% cotton jersey, with wrap-tie closures and long sleeves. It is knee-length and has ruffle detail at the neckline. It also comes in four dark yet vibrant colors, and is currently being sold online at a budget-friendly price of $29.99!
Another choice is this “Freeway from Commitments Dress” by Modcloth (doesn’t the title alone sound nice?). Though a bit more pricey, this purple dress is extremely close to an eggplant color, one of the four universally flattering colors! It’s made from 100% Organic Cotton and has the same flattering v-neck, skirt, and waist belt as the maternity style. It is also a tad more versatile with 3/4 sleeves. Available online for $77.99.
